About LumenTrek

Life Skills For Young Adults

At LumenTrek, our mission is to illuminate the path to success for the next generation.

We provide tools to help students not only change the course of their lives but also reach their goals with confidence—during the program and beyond.

We believe that teen discipline is a skill, not an innate trait. Like learning to ride a bike, it may involve setbacks, but each challenge brings new lessons until students are confidently moving forward.

By cultivating discipline, connecting authentically with each student, and helping them reach their goals, we aim to guide teens toward becoming successful, independent adults.

    Life Skills

The life skills portion of our programs equips students with the tools they need to succeed in all areas of their life. By developing strong communication, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence skills, teens will be well-prepared to navigate challenges and achieve their goals.

The Power of Discipline

We've always understood that the true power of our programs lie in the development of discipline. This fundamental skill, forged through training and unwavering commitment, goes past just athletic pursuits.

Whether it's academics, music, art, or any other passion, our programs equip students with the tools to excel.

By instilling discipline, we empower teens to become independent, goal-oriented individuals, ready to conquer any challenge and achieve their full potential.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifies a student for the 1-on-1 coaching program?

Our 1-on-1 coaching program is open to students ages 15 and up, with the belief that the earlier we can help students build a strong foundation, the more it will positively impact their future.

We support students who:

  • Need assistance improving their grades
  • Seek guidance in reaching their athletic goals
  • Put in the effort but feel they consistently fall short
  • Have goals yet lack a clear path to achieve them
  • Need an extra push to recognize and reach their potential

Our goal is to provide each student with the tools to unlock their abilities and create a brighter, more successful future.

What do the discipline program roadmaps look like? What does a session look like?

Each Discipline Program spans approximately 10 weeks.

While it generally takes around 66 days to establish a new habit, our program meets each student where they currently are. For example, if a student is struggling academically, we start by introducing tools to study more effectively. If they’re managing well in school but could improve in areas like habit-building or athletic performance, we focus on training with intention.

Each program is tailored to the unique needs of each student.

Each 1-on-1 session lasts around 45 minutes and includes several components. After an initial session, which covers an overview of the program, student responsibilities, and the fundamentals of habit formation, the structure for subsequent sessions typically includes:

  • Discussion of the weekly survey and the student’s progress on assigned tasks
  • Questions, comments, or insights the student experienced during the week
  • Introduction of the week’s topic or tool
  • Explanation of the upcoming homework
  • Closing questions and comments from both the guide and student

This format ensures students stay engaged and receive support that is aligned with their goals.

What can I expect my student to take away from the 1-on-1 coaching program?

It's important to remember that discipline is a skill, one that takes time to build. The saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day” may be a cliché, but it perfectly captures the program’s approach. Breaking old habits and forming new, positive ones is a gradual process that often includes setbacks.

However, each failure is an opportunity for growth. Every misstep helps students form new neural pathways and learn from their mistakes.

Ultimately, our goal is to guide students in achieving their own goals while taking meaningful steps toward becoming independent adults you can be proud of.

What's included in the transparency, how does the program works with the parents?

At LumenTrek, we are consultants, not licensed therapists, and we do not hold degrees in psychology or formal therapy training. Our role is to guide and support students as they work toward their goals, with transparency at the core of our process.

Every email, text message, Zoom call, and message board post is accessible to parents, ensuring you are fully informed. Because we are not bound by HIPAA regulations, we work closely with parents, allowing open communication and collaboration.

We encourage and value your input throughout the program. However, the primary focus remains on helping students develop discipline and achieve their goals, ultimately empowering them to become independent young adults.

How long does each 1-on-1 coaching session last?

Typically a session lasts about 45 minutes via Zoom.

Where do the 1-on-1 coaching sessions take place?

Sessions take place over Zoom or google meets. If none of these platforms work please contact your guide.

Can we do in person coaching sessions?

Due to the volume of students we work with and the locations of the students, we can only do remote sessions.

What resources did you use to create these Discipline Programs?

Our founder, Drew Sears, developed these programs through extensive trial and error, drawing on principles he learned in high school, college, and during his professional basketball career overseas.

Influential works, such as The Talent CodeAtomic Habits, and How to Raise an Adult, as well as insights from Bruce Brown, Proactive Coaching, Cal Newport, and the late Fred Crowell (former President of NBC Camps), have all shaped the core beliefs and tools within the Discipline Programs.

I have a question about the programs and tools that are being taught, who do I talk to?
